Senior Buyer
Description:
Coordinates activities concerned with quoting of new products and services. Quoting and purchasing activities of raw materials, equipment, tools, machinery, and supplies. Reviews Request for Quotes. Prepares and issues changes notices to Buyers. Reviews and analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports. Reviews market analysis to determine customer needs, volume potential, price schedules and discounts rates to accommodate goals of company. Responsible to ensure production material are purchased on time to minimize shortages. Responsible for coordinating continuous cost reduction activities for materials. Coordinates quoting activities with Purchasing, Customer Service, Engineering, Production and Accounting to obtain optimum production and utilization of personnel, machines and equipment. Recommend use of alternative parts, materials or manufacturing methods to reduce cost. Communicate effectively with vendors to resolve quality and delivery problems. Reviews material costs and product quality, and modifies purchasing program to maintain and enhance profitable operation of company. Plans purchasing activities and establishes priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors. May authorize payment on invoices or return to vendors. Reviews and approves company procedures. Meets and assists others in resolving problems. Compile, store, and retrieve data using MRP system. Arranges and participates in conferences with suppliers and engineers, purchasers, and other company personnel to facilitate material inspection, substitution, standardization, rework, salvage and economical procurement of parts. Oversee disposal of surplus material or scrap products in a timely manner. Keep informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies. Additional responsibilities include supervision of assigned personnel.
Education:
Associate degree in business with major course work in purchasing and/or inventory control management.
Qualifications:
- At least five years’ buying or purchasing experience in the electronics manufacturing business. Experience as a supervisor desirable.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with vendors.
- NAPM or APICS certification preferred.
